Exploring Solutions for Residential Deep Retrofit

Round Table Building Insights Live 22 May 2024

In May 2024, the fourth Building Insights LIVE round table was held at London’s Building Centre, addressing one of the construction industry’s most pressing challenges: retrofitting the UK’s existing housing stock to meet the 2050 net zero target.

In collaboration with the Federation of Master Builders, who are increasingly focused on retrofit, this event brought together housebuilders, retrofit experts, training bodies, and suppliers from different parts of the industry. It served as a platform to explore practical solutions for achieving retrofit at scale. Sponsored by WMS Underfloor Heating and Saint-Gobain Construction Products UK.

James Parker, editor and chair of the event, captured the key segments of the discussion and shared valuable learnings for professionals across the industry. Among these were Recommendations for Industry, which provide important considerations for those involved in high-risk projects, and the need for robust, early-stage decision-making in retrofit planning.

Attendees:

  • Samantha Organ, Associate Professor in Building Sustainability, University of West of England
  • Russell Smith, Director, RetrofitWorks
  • Nik Nelberg, Co-founder, Earl & Calam Design and Build
