Building in Nature: The Realities of Delivering BNG & Nutrient Neutrality

Upcoming Round Table 23/09/2026 Asia House, London

Biodiversity Net Gain is one of the major new hurdles for developers already struggling with a range of other issues. However, delivering developments which support natural species by adding 10% ‘net gain,’ while presenting a range of challenges, serve the future aspirations of homeowners. Nutrient Neutrality, although less of a clear legal requirement, is being seen on schemes, helping mitigate the effect of developments on the environment.

Constructing developments which not only harmonise with nature, and don’t harm it, but which also support species is an example of how housebuilding can contribute to the future health and welfare of the UK. Building-in nature focused approaches in a holistic way can avoid it being seen just a list of boxes to tick or costs to absorb.

Our round table, backed by our own industry research,  will feature ecology experts alongside housebuilders and supply chain voices collaborating to discover the best and most efficient methods for increasing ‘eco value’ in developments. How are developers including SMEs tackling BNG in practice, what are the innovative and practical onsite solutions to consider, and are there misconceptions around some of the ‘cons’ as well as the ‘pros’ of BNG and Nutrient Neutrality?

This round table will explore how the industry can ‘let a thousand flowers bloom,’ if some of the overarching policy approaches are refined in order to let housebuilding pursue realistic options.
