Solutions for Low Energy Domestic Retrofit at Scale

Upcoming Round Table 18/02/2026 To be Confirmed

In May 2024 we staged a multi-disciplinary round table on exploring solutions for the domestic retrofit challenge, in the light of the pressing need to tackle 27 million existing homes to achieve our carbon goals. Now with the expected Warm Homes Plan to be published by the Government this autumn, we will in 2026 convene a group of experts in the field to analyse progress on the challenges.

This is a crucial opportunity for the supply chain to exchange views directly with designers and contractors on the mechanisms currently being employed, including the Warm Homes Plan, and any changes that are needed. We will look at the role of housebuilders in this mammoth challenge, but also whether developers, retrofit specialists and stakeholders including homeowners are being successfully incentivised to produce the right solutions.

With the need to simplify support schemes, is the Warm Homes Plan the answer to address owner-occupied sector homes on a national basis – for example,  has its scope expanded beyond low-income households, and what monitoring of installation is being done to avoid the mistakes of previous initiatives? And how are national bodies like the Retrofit Hub helping to show industry and homeowners the ways forward?

We will look at recent retrofit innovations such as:

  • Whole-house retrofit approaches e.g. Energiesprong
  • Optimising tech for heat pumps and other solutions to ensure efficiency
  • Realistic use of natural materials for at-scale retrofit
  • Innovative tech for energy management including AI
  • Incentives for realistic innovations such as waste water heat recovery, infra red heating, etc.

The round table will also address the skills gap issue and find out whether high-profile installer training initiatives underway are progressing fast enough. Be part of this unique opportunity to share knowledge with peers and the wider sector to develop retrofit best practice and solutions to problems.
