Designing for Dementia 2026

Conference 16/06/2026 The Building Centre, London

Continuing a series of in-depth discussions with the construction sector, academia, sharing good practice on inclusive, supportive design for spaces for people living with dementia. Following two focused round tables including sponsors’ representatives from the supply chain, Building Insights LIVE presents a specialist half-day conference, enabling a wider array of presentations and discussions to occur in a compact, effective format. It will also be a fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues old and new from the design community to care professionals.

There is increased understanding of the importance of design approaches for healthcare facilities for people with dementia across all health and care environments. There is also substantial design guidance on creating both internal and external spaces in new build and refurbished care environments that enable residents to to live well. Is the growing global evidence base being used effectively in projects, and if not, how could it be better employed?

NHS facilities and private care homes are increasingly required to ensure they support people with dementia, from a meticulous focus on overall space design, to better attention to flooring, acoustics, lighting, and colour, along with other sensory factors, and the normal safety concerns. However, how can designers and care professionals collaborate, together with construction supply chains, to bring evidence-based best practice into all schemes? And how can they navigate the care models and regulations to provide tailored solutions which help individuals live better lives?

We will feature an array of experts sharing ideas and practice, to help inspire and enthuse delegates, who are also encouraged to contribute to the discussions.
