n November 2024, netMAGmedia staged our first round table discussion to bring together senior water industry representatives, construction sector professionals including major housebuilders, and expert consultants, to discuss how to elevate water saving. With much of the industry discussion having been dominated by energy and carbon savings, the need to mitigate water shortages in new build housing has been sidelined, and this discussion was a crucial first step in helping to redress this.
In November 2026 we will convene another leading panel of commentators to gauge progress made on the 2024 group’s recommendations over the intervening two years. We will also explore how carbon saving goals can be aligned with water in order to ensure that one does not take precedence over the other, with the Future Homes Standard reinforcing the focus on energy savings. We will also broaden the focus to include specific debate around delivery of water savings in new build social housing and Build to Rent as well as the owner-occupier sector.
