In June 2025, Building Insights LIVE hosted a major multi-disciplinary round table in association with E.ON at the Institute of Directors in London, bringing together leading professionals to discuss the growing challenges developers face in connecting new housing schemes to the electricity grid.
As the drive to decarbonise heating, expand EV charging infrastructure, and increase on-site solar generation intensifies, developers are finding grid connection issues increasingly critical to project viability. With margins already tight, the ability to deliver sites at full capacity is often being constrained by grid limitations and inaccurate assumptions around actual electricity demand.
The event brought together a range of experts from across the sector to share knowledge and practical experience as the industry prepares for the Future Homes Standard. Participants explored the challenges of grid connection from multiple perspectives, identifying opportunities for smarter, more flexible approaches to energy management. The discussion also highlighted an upcoming E.ON UK solution designed to help developments’ low-carbon technologies draw only the power they truly need at any given time – offering a potential breakthrough in overcoming grid constraints and enabling more sustainable, cost-effective delivery of new homes.
